3 Sporty Chic outfits for women over 50

Let me start by saying that I’m generally in the “don’t wear gym clothes as street wear” camp. (I usually work out in an old tee shirt and bike shorts.) But several of you have requested some versatile athleisure looks, so today I’m sharing 3 “sporty chic” outfits, all featuring a pair of Athleta Brooklyn wide leg pants.

I do appreciate the comfort and practicality of some athletic wear. Ease of wear and care can make them great options for travel. But if you want maximum versatility, look for styles that aren’t too yoga-class literal, and are polished enough to be worn with your everyday wardrobe pieces.

3 Sporty Chic outfit ideas, from day to dinner

A few years ago, I shared some outfit ideas with the original Athleta Brooklyn pants. This wide-leg style is a recent addition, and made with the same lightweight, swishy fabric. As with the original, they’re available in Regular, Tall, and Petite sizes (I’m wearing Petite 6), and are 25% off for a limited time! I used them as a base for these 3 sporty chic outfits, and found them incredibly easy to style.

Sightseeing or running errands

Comfort on the move, while still looking put-together. A lightweight sweater can add some color, as well as helping accommodate fluctuating temperatures. While Bella’s the only one doing downward dog here, you could also wear these pants for light yoga, stretching, walking.

Museum visit, coffee meet-up

The loafers add some structure and polish to balance out the relaxed pieces. (A derby, Mary Jane, or ballet flat will also work here.) If it warms up, just tie the hoodie over the shoulders or (neatly) around the waist. I love these shorter-length tees from Kule! It’s so hard to find Petite-friendly Breton stripe tops!

Dinner out on the terrace

Smart casual, with ease. The contrast stripe trim on the cardigan is another “sporty” detail I love. The refined silk top and metallic shoes balance the sporty elements. (Here’s a budget-friendlier cardigan with striped trim.)

If wide-leg or pleated styles aren’t your thing, these outfits could also work well with the original Brooklyn ankle pants, or the Endless pants (a knit with slightly thicker fabric and more structure). They’re all 25% off, for a limited time.

Would you wear any of these sporty chic outfits? Do you have any favorite athleisure pieces that you pack for travel?
