I don’t usually get real-life outfit inspiration from the Met Gala; I’m treating the red carpet more like an art museum, less like my Pinterest board. But this year’s “Tailored for You” theme had looks you could actually wear—or, at least, elements. I ended the night looking for new slacks and a good blazer. And, thanks to Anne Hathaway, I was also reminded to pull out a staple I already have in my wardrobe.

Hathaway stepped onto the carpet wearing a custom Carolina Herrera look: a jewel-covered column skirt and, a nod to Herrera herself, a classic white button-down (a.k.a. the summer staple everyone needs). And for the afterparty, rather than doing a full 180, she simply made the look more wearable, tying her white button-down at the waist and swapping that glamorous skirt for controversial-but-trendy black capris.
