Awards Leaderboard: Top Movies of 2023

The 2023-2024 awards season is officially off to the races, and we are back with our Awards Leaderboard because we live for all the season’s drama. We will be here after every major contest to recap every win all the way up until Oscar night. Also, check our Award Tours hub for more interviews, winners lists, and event recaps from critics groups, guilds, and industry honors.

Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer still tops our list with over 200 wins, including multiple wins for Editing, Cinematography, Score, and more than a few Actor prizes for stars Cillian Murphy and Robert Downey Jr. Though there is still a significant amount of time before we get to the final days of the season a Best Picture front runner has not pronounced itself so strongly from this early on in the season since we began tracking wins in 2012. The Cinematographer and Editor’s Guild prizes have yet to be handed out, but barring huge shock, Oppenheimer should coast comfortably to wins there and their corresponding Oscar Prizes. It pains us to confess, but the momentum behind Cillian Murphy has seemingly rebounded with back-to-back SAG and BAFTA wins cooling the red-hot resurgence of Paul Giamatti. Still, with a real fight between the two in Best Actor and with Best Picture all but sewn up, we are setting up for a fun, if predictable, night for Universal Pictures. (Universal Film Group is a part of NBCU, the parent company for Rotten Tomatoes/Fandango)

The Holdovers is still our second-place pick, with impressive wins from supporting actress contender Da’Vine Joy Randolph, plus more recent wins for lead actor Paul Giamatti. The recent screenplay wins for Alexander Payne’s cozy holiday feature are setting up a nailbiter with indie favorite Past Lives or Anatomy of a Fall for Best Original Screenplay, which has also logged more than a few wins.

We will likely have a very different list when we update again, but the season has begun, and we are more than ready to dive in. Which one of these wins will matter in the long run? Like our leaderboard, it is all still very much up in the air, but we will be here each week to keep you updated. So bookmark this page to stay in the know on which films take home the most prizes.

Read on to find out where your favorite movies stand.
