Although a stand-alone entry separate from the 2021 trilogy, Fear Street: Prom Queen is still set in the cursed town of Shadyside. Here, the popular crowd vying for the prom queen’s crown seems slighted when an outsider is nominated for the role. With the social order already in chaos, the appearance of a masked killer taking out each of the prospective queens leading up to prom sparks a desperate hunt to find the culprit.
An homage to classic slashers, mixed with a dose of teenage drama, Fear Street: Prom Queen may bring new faces to the franchise both in front of and behind the camera. It looks to capture that same nostalgia that the franchise has thrived on, so those who love R.L. Stine and the previous films should rejoice. Restless presents an escalating series of events as two neighbors go to war. If you want some chills with your thrills, Shudder is bringing the original movie The Surrender to their platform. The film follows a mother and daughter, Megan (Colby Minifie) and Barbara (Kate Burton), who attempt to resurrect a recently deceased patriarch in a grueling, day-long ceremony.
Finally, Night Call is now available on Hulu. The festival favorite follows Mady Bala (Jonathan Feltre), who gets caught up in a deadly night of survival after being falsely lured into a job that sees him killing a man in self-defense. MovieWeb’s own Julian Roman gave the film a 2/5 (read his review here), but the French thriller currently stands at 81% on Rotten Tomatoes.
