Getting older can be tough. You start to lose the ability to do certain things, you start to experience a different side of life than you are used to and this can be an adjustment. It’s important that as you age you are heading to see your doctor for regular checkups. When you were younger, once a year was sufficient, but now that you’re getting older, you should be booking one of these every six months. The great thing about this is that you will be able to detect any issues early, meaning that you can get treatment as soon as possible. The quicker illnesses are caught, the easier it is to beat them!
Move More
Exercise is still important as you get older, and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. You need to be moving regularly, but there is no need for the exercise to be intense. Going for a walk every morning, or a swim in the evening is enough movement to keep you healthy. You don’t have to hit the gym, you just need to get your blood pumping and your muscles warm.
Adequate Sleep
As an adult you should be aiming for around six to eight hours of sleep each night. As you age, sleep can become more difficult to achieve. This could be due to an old mattress that hasn’t been replaced or it might be down to various aches and pains that you are experiencing. Whatever the reason, there is usually a simple solution to fix everything. If your mattress is new then it might just need turning or flipping, most people don’t realize you can do this. It will offer you much more support and bring on a great night of sleep. However, if you are continuously losing out on vital hours of sleep then it might be worth a visit to your doctor. Move House
Finally, consider if your current home is working for you or whether it is causing a hindrance. It might be that you can’t manage the stairs due to ill health. If this is the case then there are other options for you out there. Weigh up the pros and cons of these and see which one works best for you. It might be that you need to move into retirement living or you could simply downsize to a bungalow with no stairs. See what your friends and family recommend, don’t be afraid to speak with them about things.
