The 1980s was a tremendous decade for horror movies. We saw the birth of new icons, and were treated to a plethora of practical effects from filmmakers who pushed the limits of acceptable taste. Yet sandwiched in between the likes of Freddy Kruger, Jason Voorhees, and effects wizard Tom Savini was perhaps one of the best supernatural horror movies ever made that doesn’t get nearly the love that it should. Maybe now it will get the recognition it deserves thanks to star Heather Graham, who is set to lead a new spin on the true story brought to life in 1982’s The Entity.
Deadline reports that Graham (Boogie Nights, Suitable Flesh) is set to lead Entity Within, which comes by way of Insidious and Paranormal Activity producer Steven Schneider. Directed by Nick Simon, the film isn’t necessarily a remake in the traditional sense, but rather a new look at one of the most documented paranormal cases in history that will examine the true story of Doris Bither, a woman who claimed to have been repeatedly sexually assaulted by a relentless force. Producing and distributing the film in North America is GVN Releasing, and for Missy Valdez, GVN’s Head of Production, she can’t wait to bring audiences what she calls an “elevated horror movie.”
“This film is based on a true story and that truth is chilling. It is an honor and a challenge to bring Doris’s raw and terrifying experiences to the screen with care and dignity. So proud to be part of this film. This is an elevated horror film that blends emotional depth with real-life terror, and we believe it will deeply resonate with both genre fans and new audiences alike.”
The plot of Entity Within will follow the same scenario as the original film, and take place in 1974 suburban Los Angeles. Graham will take on the role of Doris, a single mother who is violently attacked by an unseen force in her home. With no one believing her, she turns to a team of paranormal researchers, leading to one of the most documented and disturbing supernatural cases in U.S. history.
