The German Design Council has honored the German National Tourist Board (GNTB) with the prestigious German Brand Award 2024 in Gold for their 3D animation of Caspar David Friedrich’s “Wanderer above the Sea of Fog.” This recognition in the “Brand Communication – Ambient Media & Outdoor Advertising” category celebrates the GNTB’s innovative use of 3D video to promote Germany as a cultural travel destination. Displayed on Europe’s largest digital billboard at Piccadilly Circus in London, the captivating animation reached over 11.6 million people in just two weeks. Additionally, the GNTB’s various campaigns were recognized in the “Excellence in Brand Strategy and Creation” discipline, earning four “Winner Awards” and two “Special Mentions” from the jury.

The GNTB’s global campaign “51 UNESCO World Heritage Sites” has triumphed in the Digital Campaigns and Influencer Marketing categories. It also garnered a “Special Mention” as the “Lighthouse Project of the Year”.

The German National Tourist Board (GNTB) is making waves in sustainability with its “Stay a little bit longer” initiative. This global campaign, designed to extend the duration of travelers’ stays, has earned acclaim in the “Brand Communication – Social Media” category, and is set to be recognized as a winner in 2024.

In addition, GNTB Copenhagen’s market-specific “Workation” campaign highlights the potential for long-term stays. This campaign has been awarded in the “Digital Campaigns” category and received a Special Mention as the “Lighthouse Project of the Year.”

Background on the German Brand Award: The German Brand Award, presented by the German Design Council, is the leading marketing accolade in the German-speaking world. It celebrates excellence in brand strategy and communication across two main disciplines:

  1. Excellent Brands: This category honors the top product and corporate brands within various industries.
  2. Excellence in Brand Strategy and Creation: This category recognizes the most impactful campaigns, concepts, and strategies in specialized fields.

Within each discipline, the jury typically awards one “Gold” winner per category for exceptional achievements. Additional “Winner” awards are given for noteworthy contributions, and a “Special Mention” is designated for outstanding aspects of brand management.
