AMC’s Interview With the Vampire is gearing up to return for season 3, with the show’s producer offering a major production update. Based on Anne Rice’s The Vampire Chronicles novels, the season 2 finale saw the show complete the story based on the original 1976 novel that began the series. With the vampire Louis de Pointe du Lac’s story now told, Interview With The Vampire season 3 is expected to shift its attention onto Sam Reid’s Lestat de Lioncourt as it charts his rise as a modern-day rockstar, in accordance with the events depicted in the 1985 book The Vampire Lestat.

Speaking at Deadlines Contenders Television event, Interview With The Vampire producer Mark Johnson offered insights into the progress on season 3. Suggesting that the show’s writers are busily working on the scripts, series creator and showrunner Rolin Jones currently “has no time to himself.” Johnson also revealed that filming is due to begin in Toronto later this year, and that much of the season rests on Reid’s shoulders. Check out his comments below:

The writers are busy working away, meaning Rollin has no time to himself right now. We are going to be shooting in Toronto, of all places, later in the year, not too far away. So much of this season all rests on this man’s [Sam Reid’s] shoulders.

Sam Reid’s Lestat Should Rightfully Be The Show’s Main Focus

While Jacob Anderson’s Louis does continue to appear throughout the later novels in Rice’s original books, fans of the source material already know that much of the author’s focus eventually shifted onto Lestat as the series’ central figure. Johnson’s assertion that much of Interview With The Vampire season 3’s story will rest on Reid’s shoulders suggests that the show will also reflect this switch in perspective.

Interview with the Vampire season 3 will take a dive into many classic Anne Rice characters that haven’t been explored on screen yet.

With AMC already releasing a teaser video for the song Long Face, as sung by Reid’s character, all signs point to the show’s latest season sticking close to the source material. If so, it is possible that the filming that is scheduled for Toronto may serve as a stand-in for modern-day San Francisco, where The Vampire Lestat’s climactic ending is set. Given that the original book also traces Lestat’s own 18th century origins in France, it will also be interesting to see whether the production is to return to Prague, which was previously used as a stand-in for season 2’s Paris.

Our Take On Interview With The Vampire’s Season 3 Latest Update

There Is Still No Official Release Date Set

At this stage, there is still no clear indication when viewers can expect Interview With The Vampire season 3 to arrive on screens, but with filming still yet to commence, the likelihood of it arriving sometime this year is looking increasingly slim. Given that it took seven months for season 2 to premiere after filming wrapped in October 2023, even the most optimistic estimates would place a potential release date sometime in either early or mid-2026.

Nonetheless, with AMC already teasing Lestat taking center stage as the flamboyant rock star of Rice’s books, expectations are high as Interview With The Vampire finally sees the author’s beloved Brat Prince be given the full spotlight. With filming set to get underway later this year, hopefully, a more concrete release date announcement may not be too far off.
