The Prince and Princess of Wales spent this weekend in Cardiff to watch the Six Nations rugby match between England and Wales—and in doing so, shared a peek into their own weekends with kids Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.

“At weekends, we go from one competition to the next,” William said, as Kate added, “Louis is six, and he’s just started touch rugby, and George is 11 and he plays a bit more. They do really enjoy it.”

“They’ve been exposed to lots of different sports,” she added, per Hello!.

William and Kate were on opposing sides for the March 15 match, with William supporting Wales in his role as patron of the Welsh Rugby Union, and Kate rooting for England in her role as patron of the Rugby Football Union. For the sporting event, Kate wore an Alexander McQueen coat, according to What Kate Wore, paired with Gianvito Rossi suede boots and a Grace Han handbag.

In 2022, Kate spoke about her kids’ love of rugby, saying that George, Charlotte, and Louis were enjoying it, and that Louis specifically “is kamikaze—we’re worrying about when he gets older, he’ll be in the middle of everything,” she said.

Rugby has been a part of the Princess of Wales’ life since childhood, and younger sister Pippa Middleton said in an interview with Vanity Fair that “Rugby was a big thing for our family, and the focal point was international matches, which were often played on Saturday afternoons and were as much social as sporting occasions.”

“We’d plan our weekends around the big matches—a quick bite to eat at halftime or lunch on our laps, typically a chicken pot pie or something equally cozy and English,” Pippa continued. “If we list, my dad would be in a state of despair for the rest of the afternoon, as if he’d actually lost the game himself.”
