You can get all complex and maximalist with your outfits this summer (and that’s totally fine!), or you can go the simple, classic route and spend less time getting dressed and more time, well, enjoying whatever activities you’re getting ready for. I love summer because it’s an easy throw-on-and-go type of vibe; sundresses and sandals, shorts and sneakers—you get the idea. But, Kendall Jenner, supermodel and queen of effortlessly cool outfits, just served up the unfailing pants-and-shoe combo to know for summer 2025—and beyond.

Jenner was photographed out and about over the week (pre Met Gala 2025, where she served!), in an easygoing, off-duty look I wear 24/7. She opted for closet staples, including a fitted white baby tee (a summer must-have). She threw on a cropped trench, which is still a must-have this time of year thanks to unexpected rain showers and brisk winds—anyone who lives in NYC knows spring here can be quite deceiving. But, the winning duo was her pants-and-shoe combo: black, straight-leg jeans and dainty ballet flats.

Wearing jeans with flats certainly isn’t a new pairing, but it is one that’s seeing a lot more traction as of late. And it makes sense; Balletcore brought comfy ballerina flats back onto the scene, and since then, the sensible shoe hasn’t shown any signs of fading away. I pretty much live in my ballet flats, more so than my usual sneakers, because they’re a bit dressier than kicks while still offering similar comfort elements of my trusty white trainers. So, it also makes sense that ballet flats are being worn in the same way as sneakers, especially with straight-leg jeans.

Straight-leg jeans and ballet flats offer the perfect balance between something low-key (ahem, the jeans) and a touch of femininity (the flats). The proportions also play well with each other; straight-leg jeans usually hit right at the ankle, which means no hemming is needed nor any break-your-ankle heels to ensure the denim isn’t hitting the floor. Instead, the ankle cut is ideal for a flat’s sleek, simple silhouette—without you having to sacrifice any comfort while you’re at it.
