Even Mother Monster is not invincible when it comes to technical difficulties—but at least she knows how to keep the party going. During her second headliner set at Coachella last night, April 18, Lady Gaga encountered some mic problems during the opening moments of the show, but managed to keep the show running smoothly.

The set began with Gaga towering above the stage in a giant, gothic red hoop skirt. She opened the show with “Bloody Mary” from her 2011 album Born This Way, before transitioning into her new single “Abracadabra.” However, during the opening moments of the second song, Gaga could be seen trying to adjust her mic with her hand as the sound crackled in and out. During the chorus, Gaga’s voice cut out completely and, for a few moments, only the backing track could be heard. Mid-way through the song, Gaga descended to the ground and managed to quickly switch her malfunctioning headset for a hand-held mic. Without missing a beat, she continued the song, even adjusting the complicated choreography on the spot, managing to hold the mic in one hand and a prop can in another. Gaga later found a moment to swap the microphone back to a functional headset before she continued smoothly into her third song, “Scheiße.” The singer had previously performed the same set on Coachella’s first weekend—and, notably, she had worn her headset mic throughout the entire opening section.

Fans were quick to praise the singer for the seamless way in which she managed the unexpected mic issue. “lady gaga managed to switch from head mic to hand mic and back to head mic in literal MINUTES without interrupting her performance after some technical difficulties,” one fan wrote on X. “WHAT A LEGEND. WHAT A PRO.” Another wrote, “the way lady gaga handled her microphone malfunctioning was truly professional… what a legend.”
Gaga took a moment to apologize for the malfunction later in the evening. “I’m sorry my mic was broken for a second… at least you know I sing live,” she said while sitting at the piano. “I guess all we can do is our best and I’m certainly giving you my best tonight.”

Gaga’s Coachella set was filled with Easter eggs that alluded to other moments in her career, including a life-size chess game with a “Bad Romance”-style white queen and a reference to the iconic armor and crutches from her “Paparazzi” music video.
“This felt like a great opportunity to do something creative and artistic and just bring my full vision to life,” Gaga told Uproxx prior to her first performance last weekend. She added, “I think Coachella is an opportunity to do something unique and special,” she said, adding, “I could honestly cry on the phone with you just thinking about how excited I am to do this show, and I want it to be a total surprise, and want everyone to have as much fun as possible.” And no glitchy mic was about to get in her way.
