Mini LiPo Amigo Pro charges LiPo battery and powers device

The company describes the small board as a straightforward, USB-C LiPo/LiIon battery charger. Perfect for use with a Badger 2040 E Ink display, for example.

To be precise, there are two versions: both a LiPo Amigo and a LiPo Amigo Pro (pictured). It is the Pro version, note, that lets charge your battery and power your device at the same time. And it can also switch between USB and battery power…

Non Pro

The more basic battery charger, the LiPo Amigo, costs £6.00 and the little board features:

  • Charging indicator (red LED)
  • Standard JST-PH battery connector
  • Clear polarity markings
  • Default 200mA charge rate
  • Optional FAST mode (500mA)

Pimoroni writes:

“LiPo Amigo is a stamp sized board with a USB-C connector on one end and a JST-PH connector at the other so you can plug in a LiPo or LiIon battery. Betwixt the two, you can find a perky red LED that will light up to tell you when battery charging is happening. Simples!”

LiPo Amigo Pro

The more fully-featured LiPo Amigo Pro costs £8.40 and includes:

  • Extra battery protection
  • Charging indicator (red LED)
  • Two standard JST-PH battery connectors
  • Power on/off button and header
  • Power and charge at once
  • Clear polarity markings
  • Default 200mA charge rate
  • Optional FAST mode (500mA)

The company writes:

“LiPo Amigo Pro is a bit larger and has some additional tricks up its sleeves. It’s got two JST-PH connectors so you can charge your battery and power your device at the same time (and switch seamlessly between USB and battery power). It also has a power on/off button and extra built in battery protection.”
