I feel like everywhere I turn, I see a pair of streamlined, low-top sneakers; I swear Adidas Sambas and Puma Palermos are following me. But this season, a more substantial style has started to infiltrate that ‘It’ sneaker circle, and Martha Stewart might have just found the most luxury version of it.

Chunky sneakers are the throwback style stars like Katie Holmes, Naomi Watts, and Stewart, who recently wore a $1,250 pair from Hermès, have been reaching for this season.

I imagine that’s because the shoe’s thick, padded design makes them actually suitable for all sorts of weather, though it doesn’t hurt that they also can make any outfit they’re paired with look a little more elevated. Stewart’s exact pair isn’t in my budget, but I do think the practical-yet-stylish shoe has earned a spot in my late winter-into-spring wardrobe. Inspired by her cool footwear, I found seven transitional styles to buy ahead of spring—starting at just $60.

7 Martha Stewart-Inspired Sneakers

Cole Haan GrandPro Premier Sneaker

Nordstrom

Cole Haan’s GrandPro sneakers in this Biscoff-cookie brown remind me of Stewart’s designer sneakers—a major gap in price points aside. These have a leather and suede exterior, cushiony insole, and whipstitch details that dress up the everyday sneakers.

Sam Edelman Layla Sneaker

Zappos

The neutral color pallet, black details at the tongue and heel, and athletic silhouette make Sam Edelman’s Layla sneakers another great option. But these are more than their look (though shoppers do call them “classy” and easy to dress up), they’re also soft and supportive. One fan wore them for the first time to a concert, where they walked two miles and danced for hours, and deemed them “perfect,” raving that the shoes were “so comfortable right out of the box.”

Løci Echo Sneaker

Loci

Løci is the vegan footwear brand celebrities and InStyle fashion editors love, so of course its Echo sneakers made my list. While these are on the pricier side, their cork insoles make the sneakers worth it. With a few wears, the material should shape to your foot, creating a fit perfectly tailored to you; shoppers say it “feels like walking in heaven.” The pair I’m eyeing have tan, cream, and green details (the neutral pallet is Stewart-esque) but they’re also available in 13 other colors.

I’m putting the streamlined sneakers that have dominated in years past on the back burner for a bit, reaching instead for the chunky, all weather-ready style celebrities keep wearing. Below, shop even more of the sneakers Stewart inspired me to grab before the season ahead.
