After gushing about her mysterious new relationship, Melinda French Gates was spotted in New York City with entrepreneur Philip Vaughn—again. In photos published by People, the pair were seen stepping out of a car on Tuesday, April 15 amid Gates’s press tour for her new memoir, Next Day: Transitions, Change, and Moving Forward. Their appearance comes just a day after Gates opened up about her unnamed new partner.

During a Monday, April 14 appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the philanthropist revealed that her relationship had been going “pretty great. The confession came after she told People that she’s “very, very happy” with an unnamed new partner last month.

So far, Gates hasn’t publicly named her partner, but she and Vaughn have been spotted on a few occasions now. Last October, she was photographed walking with the tech entrepreneur New York City on two separate occasions.

Gates’s new relationship comes several years after her highly public divorce from Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates in 2021. In a recent interview with People about how she began to experience panic attacks throughout the “grueling” divorce proceedings that saw her taking on “one of the toughest negotiators in the world.”

Gates has also recently opened up about why she decided to split from her ex husband following the revelation that he had been linked to Jeffrey Epstein. As she explained to The Sunday Times earlier this week, she saw the divorce as something that was necessary. “If you can’t live your values out inside your most intimate relationship, it was necessary,” she said. 

Elsewhere in her new memoir, Gates opens up about her experiences with pregnancy. She and Bill share daughters, Jennifer and Phoebe, and son, Rory. As Gates explained in her memoir, during her pregnancy with her first daughter, Jennifer, she gained 79 pounds. “To me, that weight was the external projection of something I began feeling the very second I saw the plus sign on the pregnancy test: freedom,” she wrote.
