Monica Lewinsky has been gracing the red carpet a little more frequently of late. After making a rare appearance at the Oscars and the Vanity Fair After Party last month, the writer and activist made another unexpected appearance at the Broadway premiere of Good Night, and Good Luck at the Winter Garden Theater on April 3.

Lewinsky’s look featured a strapless black dress with a wrap-around shoulder detail that sat just above the bust. Below the fitted bodice, the bottom half of the skirt featured cascading tiered ruffles that fell in an asymmetrical pool around her feet. She completed the look with a pair of pointed toe black pumps. As for her hair, she opted for a soft, wispy, half-up look.

Jennifer Lopez was also in attendance with her teen, Emme, and her sister, Lynda, while Cindy Crawford brought her husband, Randy Gerber, and her daughter, Kaia Gerber. Everyone, including Lewinsky seemed to agree: the unofficial dress code of the evening was chic black.

Lewinsky came into the public eye in the 1998. Then a White House intern, Lewinsky found herself at the center of a national scandal after her affair with President Bill Clinton was exposed. In the aftermath, Lewinsky later said, she hit “rock bottom.” After retreating from the public eye for around a decade, Lewinsky has been telling her side of the story since the early 2000s, beginning with a Vanity Fair essay entitled “Shame and Survival.” In recent years, she has also worked as a cyberbullying activist and her own podcast called RECLAIMING.

In 2021, she co-produced Impeachment, the season of American Crime Story that followed her affair with Clinton and the political scandal that followed.

As Lewinsky told Variety at the time, she is keen on producing more film and TV—and she might even dip her toes into theater. “I’m so excited with Broadway reopening to be able to go back and have the experience of what it feels like this gift of energy that comes from the actors and the words on the page,” she said. “To have that collective experience is magic. I really can’t wait to experience it again.”

Lewinsky has also begun to attend a few red carpet events. At last month’s Oscars, she wore a simple strapless LBD, which she swapped for another simple black dress, this time with a plunging necklace and sheer panel, for the after party.
