“It is my duty to protect her with all my strength.” Netflix has unveiled their new trailer for the Japanese anime The Rose of Versailles, made by director Ai Yoshimura and animation studio MAPPA. This is a fresh adaptation of the original manga by Riyoko Ikeda. It’s also an update on the classic 1970s Japanese anime series called Lady Oscar: The Rose of Versailles, also about the same character: Lady Oscar, a female military commander who served during the time of the French Revolution. This is the story of Lady Oscar, along with Marie Antoinette, the commoner André Grandier, and Sweden’s Hans Axel von Fersen. Together they all meet up in Versailles, France in the prosperous late 18th Century and live their respective destinies beautifully while being tossed about by the tides of times. The English-language voice cast includes Caitlin Glass, Megan Shipman, Karen Strassman, Ryan Colt Levy, Andy Delos Santos, Brandon McInnis, Daman Mills, Talon Warburton, and Greg Whipple. It opened first in Japan in January, and will be streaming on Netflix later in April this spring. It is so sparkly & glamorous! For anime fans only.
