In a now-edited Instagram post, Fast & Furious star Vin Diesel recently pleaded with Universal to tell fans when the final film in the long-running franchise will be released, as the studio has remained mum on any info regarding Fast X: Part 2. It seems as if even Diesel himself has no idea when the release window might be for the grand finale, which was previously expected to arrive in 2026, but filming has yet to even begin on the project.
Diesel shared a photo of himself and his Fast & Furious co-star Michelle Rodriguez, and while the caption has since been edited to express a general gratitude of love, nothing is ever truly gone on the internet. “Universal… Please tell the best fans in the world when the next movie is coming out. Please.” he wrote. The accompanying hashtags all read #DomandLetty, #FuelFest, and #LosBandoleros2.

Here’s How Many Cars Were Destroyed in Each ‘Fast & Furious’ Movie
In the ‘Fast & Furious’ franchise, more harm gets to cars than to humans. But what do the wreckage numbers look like?
It’s that last one, #LosBandoleros2, which is the most intriguing of the bunch, as it was teased by Diesel last month that he may be directing a “precursor” to Fast X: Part 2, similar to how he directed a short film that was released as part of the Blu-ray and Special Edition home releases of Fast & Furious 4 in 2009. Titled Los Bandoleros, the short helped bridge the gap between previous entries in the franchise and the events that led up to Dominic Toretto hijacking of a fuel tanker in the Dominican Republic. Does this mean Los Bandoleros 2 is moving forward? Who knows? Diesel noted at the time that he was “requested” to direct the short film, so it’s possible we could see it sooner rather than later to placate fans eagerly awaiting the final installment in the main franchise.
Has the Ball Been Fumbled on ‘Fast X: Part 2?’
At this point, Fast & Furious fans are more frustrated than anything, and rightfully so. There have been countless interviews and Instagram posts from the franchise’s various stars, none of which have really revealed anything other than that they seem to know as much as we do when it comes to Fast X: Part 2 – which is to say not a whole lot.
The 2023 film was a box-office smash, grossing $714 million worldwide, and, considering its explosive cliffhanger of an ending, fans were hyped to see what comes next. However, Universal failed to capitalize on its success, and the sequel’s original release date of April 4, 2025, was pushed back to 2026. Now it appears as if even that is in question, and let’s not even talk about the announced Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Reyes spinoff, which, again, there’s been little to no information on.
All that is to say that it definitely seems as if the ball has been fumbled when it comes to Fast X: Part 2. Trust in the franchise, and Universal, has all but gone out the window, which may or may not affect its box office performance when it is eventually released. Sure, we’ll go see it because we have to find out how it all ends (as will a lot of other people), but it would have been so much better had they just been transparent from the start.
