For its fifth iteration, Prince William’s Earthshot Prize Awards will head to a new continent—South America, and Brazil, specifically.
The Prince of Wales announced on April 3 that the annual awards ceremony would head to Rio de Janeiro after previous stops in London in 2021, Boston in 2022, Singapore in 2023, and Cape Town, South Africa in 2024. The awards have gone across the globe, from Europe to North America to Asia to Africa to, now, South America, leaving just Australia and Antarctica unvisited by the annual awards ceremony that celebrates William’s commitment to environmentalism.
The 2025 awards will take place in November, with the decision of Rio made to bring “fresh momentum for new ideas,” The Telegraph reported. The Earthshot Prize Awards will take place the same month that Brazil hosts the COP30 UN climate change summit.
While it remains unconfirmed at this moment if William’s wife Kate Middleton will join him for the trip—while she attended in London and Boston, she skipped Singapore and Cape Town—William is “all but guaranteed to attend,” according to The Telegraph.
“2025 marks the midway point of the Earthshot decade, and each year we’ve witnessed the remarkable power of human ingenuity in addressing our planet’s most pressing challenges,” he said on Thursday.

“As we bring the Earthshot Prize to Brazil, a nation rich in biodiversity and environmental innovation, we are seeing fresh momentum for new ideas to create healthier and safer ways to live our lives,” William continued. “It is an honor to profile the people making our world a better place for us and for our children.”
William founded the Earthshot Prize to come up with ideas to repair the planet, with five winners awarded £1 pounds annually in the categories of Protect and Restore Nature, Clean Our Air, Revive Our Oceans, Build a Waste-Free World, and Fix Our Climate.
A number of famous Earthshot supporters like Cate Blanchett, Hannah Waddingham, Billy Porter, Heidi Klum, and David Beckham helped William announce the latest location, per People. Beckham, for his part, said of the awards going to Brazil “I am so, so excited,” calling the country a place “where nature and culture go hand-in-hand.”
“The world has so much to learn from the people and communities across Brazil, developing game-changing solutions that drive innovation and creativity and unlock prosperity,” said Christiana Figueras, chair of the Board of Trustees of The Earthshot Prize. “In particular, we are excited to shine a light on so many young people who are actively pushing through boundaries. They are the heroes of this story.”

Speaking of young people, William and Kate’s kids Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis haven’t yet joined their dad at an Earthshot Prize Awards ceremony. Last November in Cape Town, William explained why, telling media assembled for the 2024 ceremony (and per Hello!), “Family-wise, you’ll have to wait a little bit longer, because obviously they’re at school, and I think that takes priority over everything else.”
