Royal Caribbean’s megaships provide tons of activities and entertainment to suit all ages and personalities — and that includes kids. Not only do ships provide family-friendly programming, but they also have drop-off spaces for kids and teens to hang out with peers and not their parents.
On Royal Caribbean, kids clubs include the Adventure Ocean youth facilities, teen lounges and nurseries for the youngest cruisers. Here’s everything you need to know about these onboard play spaces — before your kids ditch you and spend all day playing with their newfound friends.
Does Royal Caribbean offer a kids club?
Royal Caribbean’s youth programming varies slightly, depending on the ship.
On Icon of the Seas, Utopia of the Seas, Wonder of the Seas, Oasis of the Seas, Allure of the Seas, Odyssey of the Seas and Freedom of the Seas, Royal Caribbean’s Adventure Ocean program is divided into two groups: AO Babies and AO Kids. On all other ships, the kids club is divided into three groups: Aquanauts, Explorers and Voyagers. Some groups have their own space while others offer shared play areas, depending on the ship and the number of kids on board.
Ships also have teen clubs and lounge spaces (including outdoor hangouts), plus nurseries and toddler play areas for the youngest cruisers.

What’s the age limit for Royal Caribbean kids clubs?
Note that on Odyssey of the Seas, Freedom of the Seas, Oasis of the Seas, Allure of the Seas, Wonder of the Seas, Icon of the Seas and Utopia of the Seas, Royal Caribbean’s kids clubs are divided into AO Babies (6 to 36 months), AO Juniors (3 to 5 years old) and AO Kids (6 to 12 years old). On these ships, you’ll likely find extra-large AO Kids play areas where school-age children can choose play areas and activities based on their interests, rather than all the kids of the same age playing together.

Tweens and teens ages 12 or 13 and up (depending on the ship) can participate in teen activities or hang out in their ship’s lounge and club. The upper age limit for Royal Caribbean’s teen club is 17. Once you’re 18, even if you’re still in high school, you can’t participate in youth programming.
If you have a 12-year-old, think carefully about whether they would be more comfortable in the kids club with younger kids or the teen club with older ones. If they have a strong preference, make sure the ship you choose has the correct version of Adventure Ocean to align with their choice.
What activities are available for kids in Adventure Ocean on Royal Caribbean?
Activities vary by ship facilities and by age group, but will typically include a mix of active games, arts and crafts (often inspired by the cruise destination), and video game play. Harmony of the Seas, Symphony of the Seas, Quantum of the Seas, Anthem of the Seas, Spectrum of the Seas and Ovation of the Seas have Adventure Science Labs for hands-on experimenting; select ships also have Imagination Studios or Adventure Art where there’s always an art project going on.
Larger Icon Class and Oasis Class ships have the Adventure Ocean Theater, where kids can watch or star in shows, or play theater games.
The reimagined kids clubs on Icon of the Seas, Utopia of the Seas, Wonder of the Seas, Oasis of the Seas, Allure of the Seas, Odyssey of the Seas and Freedom of the Seas have Play Places with climbing structures geared toward the younger cruisers, where kids can explore under parental supervision. They also have a Workshop for tinkering projects, a Hangout for connecting with new friends, and the Arena for games and fun competitions.

Activities might involve sports competitions, movie watching, video and board game play, scavenger hunts, evening dance parties, or karaoke. Youth staff is on hand to supervise and get games and parties started, but the schedule for teens leaves more room for independent hanging out than the more structured program for the younger kids. On some ships, youth staff will organize teen activities around the ship, not just in the teen club.
