The Russo brothers are notorious for keeping their cards close to their chest, having helmed Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame, among other Marvel features, and it sounds like the next Avengers entry will be no different. The directing duo behind the highly anticipated Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars are hard at work on the first of their two major MCU event movies and have revealed their plans to keep the production shrouded in a Doctor Doom-style cloak of mystery.
During an interview with Collider, Anthony and Joe Russo confirmed that cameras will start rolling in April on Avengers: Doomsday, marking the beginning of what they plan to be a six-month shoot. However, since this isn’t their first MCU rodeo, the siblings are aware of the attention that the production will garner as it ramps up and have already planned accordingly to keep any potential spoilers from leaking, especially concerning paparazzi taking set photos and providing an unsanctioned early look at the movie.

There aren’t many details about the upcoming movie, but fans should be excited about the confirmed cast.
“We’re pretty good about shutting that down,” Joe admitted, with Anthony adding, “We’re sort of strategized to hopefully be effective with that.” Joe asserted that they don’t want people obtaining photographs, so they are being “pretty stringent” about where they choose to film. Soundstages are quite a safe bet as they are enclosed inside a building, out of sight from prying eyes, but the locations for the outdoor shoots have been selected with secrecy in mind as well.
Marvel Studios Has Fought a Losing Battle With Spoilers in the Past
Marvel Studios often tries to preserve franchise secrets, but sometimes it feels like it’s fighting a losing battle. The studio has been plagued with script leaks, set photo spoilers, and confidential information surfacing ahead of its big movie releases in the past. The most glaring case in recent times came from 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine, where photos that leaked from the set spoiled some surprise appearances in the cameo-heavy movie, prompting actor Ryan Reynolds to ask websites and fans to show some restraint in a social media post that was subsequently endorsed by his co-star, Hugh Jackman.
“Here’s hoping some of the websites and social channels hold back showing images before they’re ready. The film is built for audience joy – and our highest hope is to preserve as much of that magic as possible for the finished film and the big screen. Part of the reason people post spoilers is because they’re excited. I realize these aren’t real world issues and it’s firmly in the ‘good problems’ bucket.”
Avengers: Doomsday is the first of a two-part finale in the MCU’s long-running Multiverse Saga, and is scheduled to release in theaters on May 1, 2026, followed by Avengers: Secret Wars almost a year later on May 7, 2027. The two movies are expected to have epic runtimes, so we can only hope that there will be plenty of revelations when the time comes for these cinematic events to debut.
