Samsung has unveiled the One UI 6.1 update, extending Galaxy AI features to a wider range of Galaxy devices as part of its effort to democratize mobile artificial intelligence; The update will be accessible on models including the Galaxy S23 series, S23 FE (check out our review here), Z Fold5, Z Flip5, and Tab S9 series. This move follows the recent launch of the Galaxy S24 series, representing a hybrid approach that merges on-device and cloud-based AI to enhance the overall mobile AI experience.

President and Head of Mobile eXperience Business at Samsung Electronics, TM Roh, expressed the company’s ambition to make AI more accessible, aiming to bring the Galaxy AI experience to over 100 million users by 2024. The update introduces communication-enhancing features, including adjusting message tones and translating messages in 13 languages through Chat Assist. Live Translate offers real-time voice and text translations for phone calls, while Interpreter facilitates spontaneous conversations with locals through split-screen text translations.

In terms of productivity, the expanded integration of Galaxy AI enhances day-to-day tasks on supported devices. The new version of the system brings, for example, improvements to the Circle to Search with Google feature, generating intuitive results with a swift circle motion.

Note Assist and Browsing Assist aim to streamline organization and information retrieval, providing features like note formatting, summarization, and news article summaries. Transcript Assist simplifies meeting recording transcriptions and offers summaries and translations.

Samsung also emphasizes creativity with Galaxy AI, offering tools such as Generative Edit for resizing and repositioning objects in photos. Edit Suggestion facilitates faster photo editing, while Instant Slow-mo generates additional frames for slow-motion videos.

Set to roll out from the end of March, The update also introduces AI-generated wallpapers, enhancing customization options for Galaxy devices.
