Slasher movies are a staple of the horror genre. Influenced by films like Psycho, Peeping Tom and the Italian giallo movement, filmmakers in the 70s began to create the foundations of the slasher subgenre. After the monumental success of John Carpenter’s Halloween, slashers became the most prolific category of horror
