Tom Hiddleston shares what it is like to finally be back in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Loki, with the star set to return for Avengers: Doomsday. One of the biggest takeaways from Marvel Studios’ surprise stream announcement – where several actors were revealed to be joining Avengers: Doomsday – was the fact that Hiddleston is actually coming back following the end of Loki season 2. While time will tell how Loki will reemerge in the upcoming Phase 6 installment, fans are thrilled that Hiddleston is actually not done with the MCU yet.

In a new interview with TikTok creator Max Balegde, the MCU veteran was finally asked about coming back for Avengers: Doomsday and having had to keep this massive secret under wraps. While Hiddleston is no stranger to having to keep MCU secrets, the Loki actor explained that he was thrilled that he could finally talk about it, while also briefly teasing his return for Avengers: Doomsday:

Very, very excited! It’s really remarkable that I can talk about it because I’m mostly in a position of knowing and not being able to say anything! It’s strange; you have to be just very disciplined about carrying this secret around, but it’s been an extraordinary chapter of my life playing Loki, and it’s not over yet.

Marvel Studios’ level of secrecy has been a well-established aspect of the franchise for years, particularly when it comes to questions such as whether MCU actors are coming back for big films like Avengers: Doomsday. Given Loki is one of the biggest fan-favorites in the MCU timeline, it was arguably only a matter of time until they finally revealed that Hiddleston would be back. With Loki now being the God of Stories after Loki season 2’s ending, it also makes particular sense that the actor has expressed excitement about his return, which can presumably follow up on this storyline.

Even though Hiddleston’s Loki has only been announced to be part of the Avengers: Doomsday cast, it wouldn’t come as a surprise if another secret he is now having to keep hidden is if he is also going to be in Avengers: Secret Wars. This is especially possible given Loki’s current important position in the franchise and the rumored soft reboot after Avengers: Secret Wars on the horizon. Indeed, Hiddleston’s comment that “it’s not over yet,” could well be alluding to the idea of another appearance down the line, though whether this is the case naturally isn’t yet clear.

Why Tom Hiddleston’s Loki Appearing In Avengers: Doomsday Makes The Next MCU Avengers Movie Even More Exciting

With Hiddleston officially coming back to play Loki in Avengers: Doomsday, his return adds a number of exciting prospects for the massive installment in The Multiverse Saga. To begin with, given his redemption story in Loki season 2, this may lead to a scenario where Loki will actually get to team up with the Avengers after having been their enemy. Seeing how other MCU characters may react to Loki when he is an ally rather than an opponent is an exciting prospect even without factoring in the other story opportunities this opens up.

Loki’s role in Avengers: Doomsday also opens up the chance for him to have a potential reunion with Chris Hemsworth’s Thor, which would make the 2026 film the first time the two actors have worked together since Avengers: Endgame. However, it needs to be taken into account that this Loki isn’t the same one that Thor saw get killed by Thanos, as the Loki TV show has been following a time-variant who escaped his capture from 2012’s The Avengers. That alone will no doubt cause some complex dynamics to emerge, especially with where this Loki is now.

Other than these prospective storylines with the MCU’s heroes, there is obviously also the looming threat of Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom, and it will be fascinating to see how the former villain does against The Multiverse Saga’s big bad. The idea of seeing Doctor Doom and Loki go up against each other in Avengers: Doomsday could lead to one of the MCU’s biggest clashes in the entire franchise. That prospect is even more exciting because this would be a reversal of Hiddleston and Downey Jr.’s prior roles during The Avengers in 2012.

Tom Hiddleston as Loki Looks Back At The TVA In Season 2 Finale

Hearing how excited Hiddleston is to reprise the role of Loki in Avengers: Doomsday bodes well for the story and how it manages to factor the keeper of time into the overall plot. Since Avengers: Doomsday filming is set to commence very shortly, it may not be too long until fans get an idea of how Loki is coming back. Hopefully, more Avengers: Doomsday news will be announced about who else may or may not be in this movie.
