A charming cosplay shows Ahsoka Tano from the Star Wars: The Clone Wars series as a true teenager, posing for a selfie with clone troopers Captain Rex and Captain Keeli. It’s easy to forget that throughout the Clone Wars, Ahsoka was just a teenager because she had such mastery of the Force and confidently (and often successfully) ran directly into battle, even leading her clone troopers early on. Perhaps in another timeline, Ahsoka could have been living a more carefree life, throwing up peace signs rather than being thrust onto the frontlines.

Cosplayer Huriye Nursema Oral (aka snippycosplay) has shared a superb Ahsoka cosplay in which Anakin Skywalker’s Padawan is flanked by clone troopers on either side. Rather than battle poses, though, Ahsoka and the clones are grouped together in front of a cell phone, taking a selfie.

This image is particularly relevant given the recent reveal of Ariana Greenblatt’s Young Ahsoka in the Ahsoka Disney+ TV show.

Seeing Ahsoka as a True Teenager in Live-Action Was Shocking But Critical

Ahsoka Tano

The apprentice of Anakin Skywalker, Ahsoka Tano was an accomplished Padawan who served during the Clone Wars. Ahsoka left the Jedi after she became disillusioned with the Jedi Council, but returned to serve in the Siege of Mandalore at the end of the Clone Wars. She survived Order 66, becoming a Rebel agent during the Dark Times of the Empire’s reign, and her adventures continue in the New Republic era. Ahsoka was last seen stranded in a distant galaxy, having failed to prevent Grand Admiral Thrawn’s return.

Ahsoka lived through the horrors of the Clone Wars timeline, but this was mostly told in animation, and the disturbing idea of teenagers being thrown into war was somewhat diluted. With the live-action reveal of Padawan Ahsoka in the Ahsoka series, the atrocities were made much more real. Live-action Padawan Ahsoka, played by Ariana Greenblatt, was an actual teenager, and seeing her fear and confusion in the middle of battle makes her age not only apparent, but also painful. She is still played as witty and sarcastic, but in live-action, she has an innocence that didn’t translate quite as much in animation.

Ahsoka received mixed feedback for this choice, but any viewer discomfort is just reality setting in. Ahsoka was just 14 when she became Anakin Skywalker’s Padawan and began fighting in the Clone Wars. Although Star Wars: The Clone Wars is an incredible series that offered characters like Anakin and Padmé so much more character development, it made some aspects of the Clone Wars less jarring than they would have been in live-action. It’s time for Star Wars to recognize that both Ahsoka and Anakin were traumatized by the conflict, explaining many aspects of the prequels.
