A brand-new model, the Pelagos Ultra ($5,950) is part of the brand’s offering for serious divers who want advanced materials and utilitarian specs. The Ultra is water resistant to 1,000 meters and has been designed for saturation diving—the type of professional diving in which a diver lives at depth, his body “saturated” in mixed breathing gasses. A unidirectional timing bezel with a matte ceramic insert allows one to track elapsed time, while a new three-link titanium bracelet design with “T-fit” features a new cool visual indicator system that lets the wearer know how extended the clasp is.
The matte-black dial, meanwhile, features luminescent ceramic composite monobloc hour indices, “Snowflake” hands reminiscent of those from vintage Tudor Submariner dive watches, and both Grade X1 and BGW9 Super-LumiNova—blue for the hour hand and green for the crucial minute hand—to aid in legibility while underwater. (The “Pelagos” model name on the dial is also in mint blue-green, matching the shade of the hour hand when it shines in low light. Now, that’s a nice touch.) Powering the watch, the Tudor Manufacture Calibre MT5612-U is Master Chronometer-certified and boasts a 65-hour power reserve. For those for whom only the deepest-diving, most hardcore watch will do, the Pelagos collection once again delivers!
A ruby red Black Bay 58
Everyone’s favorite vintage-inspired diver, the Black Bay 58 is now available with a burgundy sunray dial and a matching anodized aluminum bezel insert. Burgundy has long been a powerful card in Tudor’s deck. The brand uses the deep red shade on its version of a GMT and when Tudor reintroduced the BB in 2012, it produced a hit model when it put a burgundy bezel on the watch. The burgundy-on-burgundy, especially the radiant dial, is especially special.
Specs are otherwise the same as previous models—39mm steel case, no crown guards, “Snowflake” hands, etc—however, the watch now comes on three bracelet choices: five-link (Jubilee-style) bracelet, three-link (rivet-style) bracelet, or rubber strap, and its Manufacture Calibre MT5400-U is now METAS certified.
