The big sci-fi TV news for the next couple of weeks will be the return of Doctor Who and Black Mirror, new series of which are out days apart from each other on April 12 and 10, respectively. And just days after that is one of the most eagerly anticipated returns of recent times with the second series of HBO/Sky Atlantic’s The Last of Us, the TV show that proved videogame adaptations can make excellent drama.

If crime drama’s more your speed, then British detective series Grace starring John Simm returns for its fifth series on Sunday April 6, while new four-parter Reunion comes to BBC One on April 7. If you haven’t caught up yet on Netflix’s Adolescence – the show everybody’s been talking about – then the tough but compelling watch from the creators of excellent restaurant drama Boiling Point comes highly recommended. Don’t forget the new series of Gangs of London too.

Comedy-wise, the new series of Hacks is almost here on Sky, there’s new The Simpsons on Disney+, and eat-the-rich satire White Lotus comes to its season three conclusion.

As well as all that, here’s a big look ahead to the new British drama coming up, all the big returning British series this year, and for crime fans, a list of the new UK crime dramas to anticipate in 2025.
