United Airlines’ Largest-ever Summer Schedule Has 17 New Flights Across 4 Continents

  • United Airlines is preparing to launch its largest-ever summer schedule.
  • The carrier is adding new 17 new international flights across four continents, including brand new routes to Europe, Africa, South America, and Asia.
  • Many of the new routes depart from Newark airport, but the launches are scheduled to go ahead as originally planned.

Get ready for some new flight options, just in time for summer.

United Airlines announced that it will launch 17 new flights with the inauguration of their largest summer schedule yet; 16 of the new routes will begin by mid-July.

In total, seven of United’s announced routes are completely new.

  • On April 2, United became the only airline with flights between Antonio B. Won Pat International Airport in Guam (GUM) and Taipei Taoyuan International Airport (TPE).
  • Flights between Denver International Airport (DEN) and Leonardo da Vinci International Airport in Rome (FCO) began on May 1, with United providing the only direct route between those cities.
  • The route between Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and Beijing Capital International Airport (PAK) also began on May 1.

On May 22, United will begin flights from San Francisco International Airport (SFO) to Juan Santamaría International Airport in San Jose, Costa Rica (SJO), giving all of United’s hubs direct flights to San Jose.

Additional routes launching May 22 include: San Francisco (SFO) to Tocumen International Airport in Panama City, Panama (PTY); Washington D.C.’s Dulles International Airport (IAD) to Venice Marco Polo Airport in Venice (VCE), and Dulles (IAD) to Nice Côte d’Azur Airport (NCE) in Nice, France.

United’s 10 new international destinations launching this summer expand the options for travelers in the U.S. to visit Europe from Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR). Flights to Faro International Airport (FAO) in Faro, Portugal, began on May 16, marking United’s fifth destination in Portugal. The airline will also have flights from Newark to Madeira Airport (FNC) on the eponymous Portuguese island beginning on June 7. 

The carrier will add its fifth Italian destination to its route map when it begins service from Newark to Sicily’s Palermo Airport (PMO) on May 21.

At the end of the month, on May 31, United begins flights to Bilbao, Spain (BIO), making it the only U.S. carrier to fly to Bilbao.

On June 14, United will become the only carrier to connect the U.S. to Nuuk, Greenland (GOH). 

United has already inaugurated its new flights from George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston (IAH) to Puerto Escondido International Airport in Mexico (PXM) on April 5, Narita International Airport in Tokyo (NRT) to Chinggis Khaan International Airport in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia (UBN) on May 1, and Denver International Airport (DEN) to Regina International Airport in Canada (YQR) on May 15.

On May 23, United will begin flights from Washington Dulles (IAD) to Blaise Diagne International Airport in Dakar, Senegal (DSS), and on July 11 it will begin flying between Tokyo (NRT) and Taiwain’s Kaohsiung International Airport (KHH), becoming the only U.S. airline to service that city.
