Wednesday is returning for a second season on Netflix, with Jenna Ortega back on the scene as the show’s creepy, kooky, and altogether ooky teen detective. She will be joined by several familiar faces from the first season, plus a slew of new series regulars and guest stars, but Nevermore Academy has at least one less student in its ranks this season. Percy Hynes White, who faced sexual assault allegations in 2023, previously confirmed that he wouldn’t be returning as Xavier Thorpe for another year and that the series has moved on without him.

White’s Xavier Thorpe featured heavily in the first season of Wednesday and was poised to play a significant role in the show’s sophomore run, as he was one of Wednesday Addams’ two romantic interests, alongside Hunter Doohan’s Tyler Galpin, leaving fans to wonder how Season 2 would address the sudden absence of one of its main characters. According to Emma Myers, who plays Enid Sinclair, the show has taken a logical diversion away from this storyline, given the new characters involved in the upcoming season. She told Variety:

“I feel like the script goes in a very specific direction that it’s not a big worry. This season especially is so character-driven, and there’s so much happening. It just makes so much sense to have the characters we have and to have the story we have. I think fans will appreciate it.”

Wednesday: 10 Storylines Season 2 Needs To Expand On

Wednesday’s first season teased plenty of storylines. However, season two has the chance to expand on many of them.

Not much is known about the plot for Wednesday Season 2. However, the last episode that viewers saw teased a new mystery, which will presumably become a central focus in the upcoming episodes. Wednesday‘s co-creators and executive producers, Al Gough and Miles Millar, also suggested at a Netflix Tudum event that the show would deliver more scares, saying, “This season, Wednesday’s journey is darker and more complex as she navigates family, friends, new mysteries, and old adversaries, propelling her headlong into another year at Nevermore.”

White’s departure is not the only change to the cast of Wednesday Season 2, as several new actors have enrolled to star alongside Nevermore’s elite. They include series regulars Steve Buscemi, Billie Piper, Evie Templeton, Owen Painter, and Noah Taylor, as well as guest stars Christopher Lloyd, Joanna Lumley, Thandiwe Newton, Frances O’Connor, Haley Joel Osment, Heather Matarazzo, and Joonas Suotamo. Lady Gaga also joined the cast in an undisclosed role, and, according to Ortega, she is one of the most “talented” people she has ever worked with.

[Lady Gaga] is the best, definitely one of the most talented individuals I’ve ever worked with. It was just a really, really special environment to be there with her and Tim [Burton], two people that I respect and have been inspired by so much. Then just finding out that she’s such a sweetheart and really kind and reserved, it’s very strange. I love that you never know what to expect from her, but you can always expect kindness and generosity.

Returning alongside Ortega and Myers for Wednesday Season 2 are Catherine Zeta-Jones (Morticia Addams), Luis Guzmán (Gomez Addams), Isaac Ordonez (Pugsley Addams), and Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nyawo (Deputy Ritchie Santiago), who are appearing as series regulars this time around. Jamie McShane (Sheriff Donovan Galpin) and Fred Armisen (Uncle Fester) are also back, in addition to Joy Sunday (Bianca Barclay), Moosa Mostafa (Eugene Ottinger), Georgie Farmer (Ajax Petropolus), and Victor Dorobantu (Thing), so the show’s titular snarky sociopath will have no shortage of friends — and foes — to avoid this season.
